If you have chosen to request membership of our fine Club, then our aim is to welcome you and help you enjoy your golf and our facilities.

Q: Is DCGC a member of the County Card System?

A: Yes, DCGC is a member of the Durham County Card system available to members of clubs within County Durham who are aged 60 and over.  The Club has also recently joined the National County Card Scheme, which enables Members of participating Affiliated Clubs to play at other participating courses at reduced green fee rates.  For an annual fee of only £8 members may play at least once at any of the Host Clubs on the list (some Host Clubs may allow more than one visit).  See http://www.bbogolf.com/icounty-card.asp for further details.

Q: Do Senior Members get discounted membership subscription rates?

A: Members of DCGC receive a discounted membership subscription fee, once they attain an age of 65 for men, 60 for women and have been Durham City GC member for 10 years or more.

Q: What kind of reduced rates are available for Junior Members?

A: Durham City GC has been at the forefront of supporting junior golf for a number of years and has close ties to the local schools and community. As recently as 2008 we hosted the English Girls Under 18 Championship. We have also recently been awarded the Junior Golf Mark by the English Golf Union (EGU) in recognition of the efforts many of our members have put in to support golf with the younger age groups. The Club is the first in County Durham to receive the 'higher achiever' grade of this prestigious award.

Junior membership is free to 11 and under whose parents are full paying members. Anyone under the age 18 the prices are graded according to age. We have also recently introduced intermediate level memberships from the ages of 18 to 25. This also graduates the annual subscription fee as young adults set out on their career path following college or university.

Q: Does DCGC provide Junior Coaching and Junior Opportunities?

A: DCGC prides itself as being one of the leading clubs for Junior Golf in the North East of England.  We have recently been accepted into the EGU GolfMark scheme (see http://www.golfmark.org), of which only a handful of clubs in the north have also qualified.  DCGC also provides Junior Coaching on Saturday afternoons throughout the playing season for children aged 16 and below.  Currently we have between 30- 40 children attending the 1-hour coaching sessions, led by our qualified Professional Greg Jobling who is our  Junior Liason Officer.  Children do not need to be club members to attend the sessions, nor do they require their own clubs.  Simply turn up at 12pm to join the already growing group of keen young golfers enjoying an introduction to the game.

Q: What kind of coaching is available?

A: Greg Jobling is the Assistant Professional at DCGC.  Greg has been a Professional Golfer since 2014 and has been associated with DCGC since 2014.  The Professional's shop can be contacted by telephone on 0191 3780029 or via email: proshop@durhamcitygolf.co.uk

Q: Are Winter Greens/Tees/Mats used?

A: No, unlike many other courses DCGC does not adopt any form of ‘Winter Course’.  We feel that the fairways are able to withstand the winter conditions, and do not require the protection of ‘Playing Mats’ which are unfortunately becoming commonplace at many courses. DCGC adopts the ‘Preferred Lies’ rule, which we feel is more than adequate for members and visitors to enjoy their round in the softer winter conditions.  We are also fortunate at DCGC in that the course was designed to include large tees on many of the holes and greens that are of considerable size. This allows the greenstaff to spread the wear throughout the year and we do not need to resort to using temporary tees or cutting temporary winter greens in the fairway.

Q: What is the Dress code?

A: Durham City is a traditional Club whilst holding modern values. As with most golf courses DCGC does enforce a dress code for playing on the golf course (Dress Rule). We have however in recent years recognised that our Clubhouse also provides for a social audience, and have therefore relaxed the dress code in the Clubhouse accordingly. We still request a certain level of smart casual attire but are relaxed and trust our members and visitors to know where to draw the line.

Q: What are the Bar Opening hours?

A: Bar opening hours vary according to the time of year, but as a guide we try to operate summer hours and winter hours. As a guideline the bar is open from 11am to 11pm during the summer and 11am to 6pm in the winter (except Wednesdays and Fridays when full summer hours are in operation) These hours will, on occasion, vary depending on functions, meetings and events held at the club.

Q: Does the clubhouse offer Sky Sports/BT sports etc?

A: Yes, the clubhouse has the full Sky Sports package together with BT sports.  Live golf, football, cricket and other sports are shown regularly throughout the year.
